Mieke van Tergouw, l’organisatrice du CAI de Beekbergen

Over 100 competitors from 22 different nations will compete from 19 to 22 July in the international driving competition in Beekbergen, the Netherlands. In its 27-year-old history, Beekbergen has never had so many competitors before and the large number ofcompetitors very pleasantly surprised the Organising Committee.

“We have opened our competition this year for the single horses as well and this turned out to be very popular amongst this group,” explains organiser Mieke van Tergouw. “We have 45 single drivers and we even have a waiting list, this has never happened before.”

One of the reasons for Beekbergen being so popular is the World Championship for single horses in Portugal, which will take place in September. For many competitors, Beekbergen is the last chance to show their skills to the national coach.

Traditionally, the international horse pairs and horse teams classes will also be run at the site of Riant Equestrian Centre in Beekbergen. HostMieke van Tergouw will do everything to equal last year’s victory in the horse pairs class. She will face strong opposition from 30 competitors, amongst which her golden team members from 2011 Gerard Leijten and 2009 World Champion Harrie Verstappen, Riant driver Claudio Fumagalli and top drivers from Germany, Spain and Switzerland.

For the horse teams class, Beekbergen is also one of the last selection moments for the World Championship, which will take place from 15 to 19 August in Riesenbeck, Germany. Over 20 four-in-hand drivers, amongst which USA’s Chester Weber, the fresh German Champion Christoph Sandmann, Sweden’s double World Champion Tomas Eriksson, Hungary’s Jozsef Dobrovitz and Dutch top drivers Koos de Ronde and Theo Timmerman will compete against each other.
